Summer has begun, and with it – sleepless nights. It's time for some changes in your bedroom to help you get quality sleep without tossing and turning in overly warm bedding.
You probably already know that we sleep best in a slightly cooler room. But how do you stay refreshed when even at night your bedroom, heated by the day's sun, doesn't cool down? Here are some tips on how to reclaim comfortable sleep during summer.
-
Keep your room dark.

This tip is especially relevant if your windows face south or west. In the evening, a sun-heated room doesn't cool down after sunset, so when you get into bed, it feels like a sauna. Invest in blackout curtains. They not only darken the room but also help keep it cool. When the sun's rays aren't heating your bed, it doesn't get as warm.
It's important not only to block out the sun. Remember that devices and appliances that emit light also heat up the room. Turn off lights when you don't need them and keep your bedroom dark.
-
Pay attention to open windows.

When the sun is heating your home, it's tempting to open all the windows and let in fresh air. Unfortunately, this often has the opposite effect – you let even more heat inside.
On especially hot days, keep your curtains drawn and only slightly open the windows that aren't getting direct sunlight. Ventilate your home after dark, when the temperature drops.
-
Change your bedding covers.

In the photo – our PREMIUM sateen bedding set.
If you use synthetic or blended fiber bedding covers – forget them for the summer! These covers make you sweat, don't let your skin breathe, and trap heat. Definitely not the most pleasant choice on hot days...
In summer, choose the lightest possible natural fabrics. In our assortment, you'll find ultra-light (130g/m2) PREMIUM sateen bedding covers. These 100% cotton fabrics are breathable, allow your skin to breathe, and are exceptionally soft and pleasant to the body.
If you can – choose a natural fiber duvet. If that's not possible, skip the duvet altogether – just cover yourself with a natural duvet cover or an extra sheet (of course, without elastic).
-
Bring nature into your bedroom.
In many bedrooms, you won't find a single plant. People avoid them, fearing extra dust. But that's unnecessary!
Plants absorb warm air and release water – just like people, that's how they cool themselves. A cooling plant will also refresh your room. And we probably don't need to mention how they purify the air. Just remember that on hot days, plants need to be watered more often! Trust us, they'll thank you.
-
Switch rooms.
If you have a large home, you've probably noticed that some rooms are cooler than others. If you live in a multi-story house and your bedroom is upstairs, move to the first floor to sleep. Remember, heat rises, so rooms on lower floors are often cooler.
Rooms with windows facing north are usually cooler as well. If you can, find the coolest spot in your home and move your bedding there.
-
Cool down your bedding covers.

While this tip may sound strange – it really works! Even if you choose a natural fiber bedding set, the heat can still be bothersome. Try these ways to cool your bedding:
- Fill a hot water bottle and freeze it. Before bed, roll the bottle under your bed and leave it nearby.
- Before bed, remove your pillowcases and put them in the fridge. Don't forget to put them back on before you go to sleep.
- You can cool your duvet cover (or even the whole bedding set) in the freezer! Before freezing, fold the bedding set and place it in a zip-lock plastic bag to keep the fabric from getting wet.
-
Invest in a good fan or air conditioner.

It's obvious – if you invest in a good air conditioner, you can forget about hot nights! But not everyone has this option.
If you can't install an air conditioner at home, try a simple fan trick! Place a bowl or even a bucket of ice (frozen water bottles work too) in front of the fan and enjoy a refreshing blast of cool air!
-
Cool yourself down!

Cooling just the room might not be enough.
Cool yourself down too – both literally and figuratively.
- Treat yourself to a cool shower or bath before bed to lower your body temperature a bit.
- Relax and keep a cool head. When going to bed, forget the day's worries and focus only on rest. Stress definitely won't help you sleep well, but meditation might!
- Cool the spots where you feel your pulse. Use a wet flannel or other cloth, ice cubes wrapped in a bag (or maybe frozen peas?) to cool your wrists and neck – you'll be surprised how quickly you feel refreshed by cooling just a couple of points on your body.
- Consider essential oils! Lavender oil not only smells great but also helps you sleep better. Add some cold water and a few drops of lavender essential oil to a spray bottle and mist your bedroom before bed.
- Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and overeating. Dehydrating drinks or a heavy meal will weigh down your stomach and your whole body, disrupting your sleep.
- Drink plenty of water! Don't forget some ice water in the evening and keep a glass by your bed.
-
Choose the right sleepwear.
Choose light, natural fabrics like cotton. While sleeping completely naked might seem like a better solution, it's actually better to wear light nightwear or pajamas, as the fabric will absorb sweat and help keep you cool.
Try putting your socks in the fridge or freezer before bed and put them on when you go to sleep. Cool feet will quickly cool down your whole body.
By following at least a few of these tips, you'll finally be able to enjoy a good night's sleep even on the hottest summer nights! And while your water is freezing in the freezer, check out our PREMIUM sateen collection.
